La Place de la Lavande

I'm very happy to share with you La Place de la Lavande, my mentorship project at Think Tank Training Centre. I worked on this project for around four months under Craig Mesaros' guidance and learned a lot during the process and I couldn't be more thankful.

This work is based on Wang Xinhang's Retro Punk City concept. Since her work reminded me of the European architecture of the early 20th century, I aimed to create assets that would blend with this type of architecture to make the city cohesive. This project was a great way for me to push myself into creating a larger environment while refining and improving my artistic and technical skills.

A big part of this project for me was the creation of the Armillary Sphere. I created trimsheets for its upper part, and used those trimsheets for the golden accents on the buildings as well. For the round base, I decided on a "pizza slice" workflow, splitting it into four sections and sculpting it in ZBrush. I then baked it in Marmoset and textured it in Substance Painter.

The buildings were modeled in Maya using tileable textures, as well as UV2 shading and detail maps. I took advantage of this workflow by baking an additional AO pass, which I then blended with the material's AO to enhance the overall look of the buildings.
The Props were modeled in Maya, baked in Marmoset, and textured in Substance Painter.
